Epidemiological Research
Abt SRBI has a long and highly respected track record in conducting large-scale
epidemiological surveys for federal agencies, university researchers and non-profit health
organizations. Members of the senior staff at Abt SRBI have designed some of the most
important epidemiological surveys conducted over the past decade. Examples of this
research experience include:
The 1982 Air Force Health Survey for the USAF School of Aerospace Medicine, directed by Dr. John Boyle,
measured health outcomes of Agent Orange exposure among the Air Force personnel involved in
Operation Ranch Hand. This survey provided basline health indicators that have been tracked by
the Air Force for twenty years.
Survey of Geographic Differences in Breast Cancer Mortality collected information
from 4,700 women in the Northern and Southern regions of the U.S. on likely exposure to
cancer causing agents, family incidence of breast cancer and other types of cancer. This
work and other studies are produced by Abt SRBI under a "Master Agreement to Conduct Support
Services for Epidemiologic Research" for the National Cancer Institute.
Asthma in America: A national RDD survey was conducted by Abt SRBI,
screening 42,000 households in the United States to identify and interview a
national probability sample of 2,509 patients with asthma (or parents of children with asthma).
This landmark survey has been replicated in more than 30 countries around the world.
