SAMPLE STUDIES

General Social Policy Studies

Survey of Disability in New Jersey:
For the Bureau of
Economic Research at Rutgers University, Abt SRBI developed
a county-by-county profile of the size and demographic breakout
of the disabled population in New Jersey. Abt SRBI conducted nearly 15,000 interviews by telephone to develop its estimates.

Social Indicators: With Columbia University, Abt SRBI assessed quality of life issues, like child care issues, in the New York metropolitan area, by reaching 2,250 primary child caregivers.

Public Attitudes and Experiences Regarding Trauma
Care in Maryland:
This study examined the prevalence, distribution, and treatment of medical trauma cases in the population. It also examined public attitudes toward the treatment and transportation of trauma victims to specific medical facilities. The findings of this study were presented before the Maryland House of Delegates. We have also conducted public relations oriented studies in the hospital and health care areas for a number of public relations firms including Ketchum, Hill, & Knowlton, and Ogilvy, Adams, & Rinehart.

Welfare to Work: Abt SRBI conducted all in-person interviewing for three waves, interviewing women with children who were currently enrolled in BEGIN and AMERICA WORKS training programs. For the benchmark study, Abt SRBI completed over 5,000 in-person interviews, averaging 60 minutes in length, with BEGIN and AMERICA WORKS clients. Interviews were conducted at seven BEGIN offices and one AMERICA WORKS site. As part of the benchmark data, each respondent was administered a cognitive test. Because this project was conducted in both English and Spanish, a non-verbal cognitive test, TONI-2 was used.
