OVERVIEW The firm has conducted major mass transit and transportation studies, including studies conducted for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, New Jersey Transit, the U.S. Department of Transportation and Amtrak. As a major research supplier for the MTA, Abt SRBI regularly conducts studies for its various divisions which include New York City Transit, the Long Island Rail Road and Metro-North Railroad. Under the direction of Dr. Mindy Rhindress, large-scale surveys are regularly conducted by Abt SRBI's mass transit division using in-person intercepts, focus groups, mail formats and telephone interviewing. This work has included several studies of consumer acceptance of automated fare cards to replace tokens, quality of service issues, advertising tracking and detailed analysis of transportation needs in specific areas. These surveys are typically conducted in multiple languages including Spanish, Chinese (Mandarin/Cantonese), Russian, Italian and Korean. Abt SRBI's Washington office has conducted surveys of drivers and driving safety issues for the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration for more than a decade. Abt SRBI has conducted the biennial Motor Vehicle Occupant Safety Surveys for NHTSA since 1994. We have conducted national and state level assessments of seat belt, child car seat and drinking and driving education and enforcement efforts for both NHTSA and state Departments of Transportation. Abt SRBI has also conducted surveys of driving patterns and transportation issues related to disability. |
