Crime and Victimization Studies

Fighting Back Survey Evaluation:
Abt SRBI conducted multiple waves of research to assess "Fighting Back" program sites and controls. The program is designed to reduce drug and alcohol dependency in 13 communities throughout the United States. So far, Abt SRBI has interviewed over 35,000 respondents in two waves of the study. The program and the survey evaluation are funded by The Robert Wood Johnson Foundation.

Risk Factors for Substance Abuse:
Abt SRBI produced a national panel study of 4,000 American women for the Medical University of South Carolina. The survey measured the prevalence of exposure to traumatic and stressful incidents, using the Traumatic Events, Crime Victimization and Holmes and Rahe Life Stressor Scales.

National Survey of Women - Risk Factors for Substance Abuse: Abt SRBI interviewed a national sample of 4,000 women for the Medical University of South Carolina under grant to the Department of Health and Human Services. Follow-up interviews conducted two years later with the respondents learned about their experience with sexual assault, other forms of violence and traumatic events, substance use and/or abuse and indicators of psychological distress including past and current post-traumatic stress disorder.

Survey of Violence and Threats of Violence Against Women in America: 16,000 men and women, age 18 and older, were interviewed for the Center for Policy Research under a grant from the National Institute of Justice/Centers for Disease Control. This study estimated the prevalence of violence among intimate partners, and of sexual assault and stalking, as well as the attendant health care costs.

Study of Sexual Assault on Active Duty Air Force Women: 3,000 active duty women in the U.S. Air Force, stationed around the world, were interviewed for the 60th Medical Group of the U.S. Air Force.
